SPD's are the standard. They are basic enough for beginners and work well enough that advanced users continue to use them. This dual sided clip makes it easy and convenient to get into your pedals quickly. The adjustable tension works great for getting acclimated to the clipless system, plus allows for a lot of variation in rider size and type. These pedals are intended to be for MTB'ing but can be used on a road bike as well. The pedal/cleat clip in system sheds dirt readily which makes clipping in easy and reliable throughout the life of the pedal. Most shoes that are SPD compatible have a recessed cleat system that makes the shoes easy to walk in. This is an especially nice feature. The 515 weighs in at 415 grams, which if you are a weight weenie, is kind of heavy. Also, the 515 system has no lateral rotation so, if you have ankle or knee problems you might want to try a different pedal.

Great all around pedal. Learn to use it and ride it forever. If you are looking to shave grams off your bike, step up to the next level of pedal.
