Accelerade is one of the few "during activity" sports hydration beverages that includes a form of protein in its mix. The theory is to provide protein for the muscles to rebuild while you are tearing them up. This is a good theory in that studies have found that providing freely available protein within 15-30 minutes of intense exercise helps muscles to recovery stronger and minimize muscle damage. My thought was that it might be good try this beverage because if you are training and going out for a 3-4 hour ride, then by the time you've completed the first 2 hours of riding you've already spent and hour not feeding protein to your muscles. And maybe its a good idea to provide a constant flow of protein to keep the your muscles fed. So, I gave it a shot.

Initial Impressions:
Good taste, smooth, not pungent. Kind of like a shake. Good so far.

My thoughts after a ride:
Initially, the taste is good and it goes down well. But as you begin to work up a sweat and need to down more fluids, the drink becomes a bit too "creamy". The flavor is good but the texture makes it hard to palate in high volumes. My stomach wasn't liking the texture at all. As you drink more of it, you start to notice a slightly sulfurous odor that might be associated with the addition of protein. The odor was slight but definitely a turn off for me.

I think Accelerade might be better used as an after workout recovery drink. But for me it did not sit well during riding. To qualify that statement though, everyone has different tastes...
