Mountain Hardwear Detonator

The short sleeve detonator is a neat cross-over jersey that is perfect as a base layer for hiking, climbing, and cycling alike. The fleecy brushed inner surface of the body of the garment is soft, soothing and readily pulls moisture away from your skin. At the same time the outer surface is a slick wind shedding material that will help you maintain your core temperature in slightly cooler conditions. The side panels that cover your rib cage area are made of a coolmax type material that wicks away moisture in a heavy sweat zone, without trapping excess heat. The coolmax feels terrific against your skin. Overall I would say that the excellent quality of the materials used in this jersey are its highlight. The different types of materials are securely stitched together to make for what looks to be a very durable jersey.

I can also appreciate how well thought out this jersey is. The dual texture of the wind blocking front/wicking inside lend to comfort and function. Another example is the two part collar piece which employs the coolmax surface in the inside but is layered with the wind blocking material on the outside. This leaves the soft wicking surface against your neck while at the same time it deters the wind from whistling down into your chest. Another nice touch is the 6 reflective badges, because as we all know, being visible is of the utmost importance.

The Mountain Hardwear Detonator has a subdued style that combines blocks of solid subtle colors. I am not really interested in being splashed with fancy designs or superfluous logos, so this appeals to me.

The only feature I can't really get behind, is the zippered rib cage pocket. Basically, anything you would put in this pocket is going to sit against your ribs which, might not the most comfortable thing in the world and beyond that, if you sweat profusely, you'll have a pocket full of soggy stuff. The pocket doesn't detract from the quality of the jersey, I just doubt I would use it.
