I first came in contact with Kinesys during a trip to Las Vegas. I was strolling around Interbike, perusing the many wares of the cycling trade. Coming upon the Kinesys booth, I asked... "Ok, sunscreen.... anything new or revolutionary here?"
The young lady whom happened to be working the booth said, "Definitely! Hold out your arm."
As instructed I raised my left arm to about waist height. She then proceeded to spray a very fine mist of her product in the air above my arm. I watched the mist settle on my arm in a very thin, glistening residue. Had I not seen it applied, I would not even know it was there. She then said, "Give it about one minute to dry and then you'll be completely protected."
I replied, "Wow, get outta here?"
That was back in October, which meant there was no need to pursue sunblocks at that time. But with Spring coming we (PPO) decided it was time to get the low down on Kinesys. We got our hands on a bunch of their products to give them a whirl.
Out of the Frying pan, into the sun:
The first time I tried the SPF 30+ Fragrance Free sunscreen, I had put it on for a ride that was the day after I had acquired a nice burn on my arms. The sun came out unexpectedly and I was caught out with out protection and got a pretty decent burn. Now it was time to ride again, and it would have been excruciating to get a burn on top of another burn. A light glaze of Kinesys really did the trick. I rode for several hours (Without reapplying) and during the course of that ride, the sun didn't bother my burn in the slightest. Even after the ride, I was fine. The fact is that I am a desk jockey who can get a sunburn from sitting too close to a 100W light bulb and Kinesys had totally protected my melanin challenged epidermis.
I usually don't use sunblock because it's greasy, slimy, smelly, gooey, gross, and bugs stick to it. I carry energy bars, so I don't need to peel critters off of my arms for roadside snacks. Now I think I am going to start changing my habits. Since Kinesys' products don't possess any of these unwanted attributes, it's going to allow me to protect myself the way I should. The application of this sunscreen is clean and easy and you don't notice it on your skin. The Fragrance Free variety, which I tested, had only the tiniest hint of a scent, barely noticeable unless you are really trying to notice it. To be completely honest, Kinesys has now officially earned itself a permanent place in my gear bag. It contains all the qualities I look for in product - ease of use, efficacy and functionality. As an extra-added bonus, they produce several different mixtures for people who may have allergic sensitivities.
