This may actually come as a shock, but occasionally, I actually hurt! This can arise from many scenarios:
  • Over work
  • RSI
  • Over training
  • Yes even crashing
  • Just being old and decrepit

There is a product out that actually helps me weather all of the above. Kinesys Analgesic Sport Stick. First glance reveals what appears to be a deodorant speed stick, but if you make the mistake of applying it as such, your underarms will warm immediately telling you you have goofed! But aside from that, I find Kinesys Extra Strength Muscle Care very effective in pain reduction.

My most recent experiences with it came after Dan and I were cut off in traffic by a parking car. We piled up very seriously and aside from the ubiquitous road rash, I had muscles that were complaining about their abuse. It is simple enough to apply, merely rub the effected area with the speed stick applicator and immediate warming relief begins. The warmth will wear off slowly but what you are left with is abated pain.

The product works equally well on muscle and joint pain for me, and I have taken to keeping a stick at work for computer aches and pains (mine not the computer's although I have schmeered it on the server too but it didn't help!).

The active ingredients are, methyl salicylate, and menthol. The aroma is mildly oil of wintergreen and menthol combined, which makes sense since methyl salicylate is oil of wintergreen. When first applied there is a slightly oily/waxy feel but if you rub it in this is greatly reduced. Warming begins almost immediately and slowly rises to quite warm.

It is NOT recommended for use on broken skin, so you have to avoid the road rash areas. But the wrenched joins and sore muscles are fair game. Use up to 4x daily, discontinue use if you have any reactions. Do not use if you are on anti-coagulants or are allergic to salicylates.

The best way to handle pain is to avoid over training, and crashes, but if you manage to foul up and hurt yourself, this stuff works, and I like it.
