Many fans of Pedrosfest think of the event as a mountain bicycle festival, totally dedicated to the sports involving two wheels, dirt, mud and insane air. But, the really dedicated festival goers, those who come back year after year to camp out in the Berkshire foot hills, know that Pedros is so much more. It is a family of people who gather year after year to enjoy healthy, rated G, fun. In fact, the first question asked when people meet and greet is not, where are you from, but rather, how many (years is this) for you?



But beyond the family of riders, Pedros really goes out of its way to cater to the families of riders. It is not at all uncommon to find a family riding around the camp, or out onto the trails, together. Pedros is not just dad shredding some single track, but rather it is also mom leading out with the kids in the middle and dad serving as sweep. And sometimes it is even mom with sis heading out to shred some single track together. But if the family is in camp, there's still plenty to keep junior and sis busy. There are events and activities such as, kid bike art, beginner rides, kiddie rides, trike races, and even sticker rides, in which the kids ride from booth to booth in vendor row collecting stickers to adorn their helmets, top tubes, or for that matter their faces.



Regular vendor sponsored events are staged for the very young and young at heart. Bead stringing caught some very interested and intense pre-k artisans who looked like they were sharing the same smile seen on most of the faces. For the slightly older kids and some kids at heart, there were bike games such as the Kenda Tire toss, or bike limbo, where a short bike was a huge advantage, and then there was the slip and slide, need we say more?



Largely a camping event, the cost of admission to Pedros includes a campsite, and most of the attendees do camp on site. But again Pedros caters to the family by strictly enforced quiet hours. Although, over the years, the actual camping areas have acquired a personality, one of them jokingly referred to as whiskey hill.
