I like everything about this windbreaker. I think it is sharp looking, it is comfortable, light weight, it has a large vent across the back, zippered pockets, carefully finished seams, and a nice comfortable cut. It is mildly water resistant (I wore it to the train this morning in a heavy mist and although there were one or two spots that water penetrated, mostly it beaded up and rolled off). It is extremely wind resistant.
Many of these features are very positive as a wind breaker for casual wear and I repeat again, I like this wind breaker! Just not for road biking! Here's why. The cut is too loose, excess sleeve material flaps in the wind that equals drag! Its water repellence defeats any wicking and sweat tends to build up between the windbreaker and you! The particular color of this sample would not be the best for road biking where I live. The gray is simply too neutral for motorists to adequately see you on the road. It could spoil their aim, so more garish colors are called for! But I love the look for casual wear!
Would I buy this wind breaker, absolutely! I will probably even wear it riding my tandem bike with my wife on a casual neighborhood ride. I will pack it for charity rides to wear off the bike and still look cool! I will definitely wear it casually, but it will not be my favorite for serious road work! The style says biking, but the choice of material and cut belie that impression. Roadies wear tight clothing for a reason-efficiency and reduced wind drag! The cut of this jacket is too generous for that. But it sure is sharp looking!
