Kinesys SPF 30+ Performance Sunscreen is Terrific!
The following statement will be a surprise to a select few and boringly repeat the obvious to many. I am stupid! Sure I know that the sun can be dangerous. Early wrinkling, premature aging, freckles, and skin cancer, all of these are possible outcomes to over exposure to the harmful UV rays of the sun. But another outcome is a vain indulgence in a "healthy tan." I indulge!
Every skin specialist in the world will tell you that there is no such thing as a health tan. Sun tanned skin is damaged skin! Period. Still, as soon as the temperature warms enough, I am shirtless in cut-off jeans shorts that my family always complains are cut way too short. I love the feel of the sun on my body. It restores me. I even like that chilled feeling you get at the end of the day after "too much sun." And, frankly, I rarely wear any sun block.
The exception to this is on my long rides. As a roadie, when I ride, I am out in the sun almost the entire time. So, when I ride centuries or multi day events, I submit to common sense, and slather on my greasy, white, creamy sunblock and slide up onto the saddle and endure.
That is I used to! From this day forward, I will mist on Kinesys!
When Dan announced the fact that we were getting sunscreen products to review, I was less than enthused (see my stupidity above). But the other day I had a full day of gardening around the pool and it was the first day I had a real chance to rip off the shirt and destroy some epithelial cells. So, I figured, 'why not try some of this stuff!' Off came the shirt and I sprayed the left side of my back.
Being used to the slather on stuff, I expected that this spray would be, in some fashion, similarly uncomfortable. Drippy, wet, cold, whatever, it should be somehow unpleasant. Boy was I wrong. Far from a spray, the product is misted when the button is depressed. The liquid Kinesys hits your skin, thermally neutral, dry feeling and very, very comfortable. I found its fragrance very subtle and quite pleasant.
The stuff went on really nice, but anything that subtle can't work, can it? Short answer, it sure can! By the end of the day, the left side of my back looked exactly as it had when I applied the Kinesis, and the right side had a rosy color, which looked exactly like the sunburn that it had. The stuff worked!

On the skin the product does have a slightly waxy feel if you happen to itch, or rub a spot with the product on it. But aside from that, the only other sense of having the product applied is the above mentioned scent.
The directions ask that Kinesys be applied every two hours, and reapplied after swimming, and exercise. But the bottle also states that it is water and sweat resistant. I suspect the request to reapply may well be conservative precaution. I applied it once and it seemed to be effective all day. I wasn't swimming but I did work up a sweat.
The bottle label reads, "SPF 30 plus, with Parasol 1789. Formulated to meet the needs of the world's best athletes. Kinesys Performance Sunscreen." I find nothing unfounded in their labeling.
I will continue to use this product!
