Pedro's Festival is a celebration of Mountain Biking in all of its forms, which is to say it is not about road biking, but virtually everything else! It is also about family fun and generally warm, friendly folks enjoying themselves. The festival is laid out in a central corridor flanked by two camping areas. The central corridor is the focal point of vendors and services, including food, announcements and music, vendors row and bike services. This seems a very simple sentence to describe an event so well thought out to entertain and encourage outdoor sports and cameraderie, so let me instead attempt to give you a sense of the day.



We off loaded the bikes from Cori's Thule Expressway Rack and set out to find the heart of Pedrosfest. We immediately threw our pre-planning out the window and decided to wing it! Pedrosfest just does that to you... hey relax dude go with the flow! So we flowed! Cori and Dan took off to join the Women's Skills Clinic and beginner ride.



Cori had a certain amount of concern, looking at the professional looking riders tearing up the dirt and trails. Peering up at the surrounding peaks and noting that everywhere was up from here, she expressed her concern. Dan remained stoic!

The temperature of the day had risen to what felt like about 97 degrees in the shade, but suddenly as the ride out time approached, the skies opened for a fifteen minute shower which nicely cooled everybody off. I have to admit that it was fun to see folks going about their normal business without regard for the rain. No one ran off for shelter, or ducked into tents or cars. They just kept riding or standing there patiently waiting for ride out.



Once Cori and Dan left Kim and I spent our time in the Vendor area talking with exhibitors and enjoying the activities. Right off the main road through camp was a generous dirt pile, heaped high with technical jumps, berms, cuts and dips. Air was what this pile of dirt was all about, how much you could get and how long you could hold it were the challenges of the day. And it went on all day.
