The short ride from Pedrosfest's main venue, the few miles to the Jiminy Peak Ski Resort, took us from an area distinct, not only in locale, but also in intensity. As we walked up to the ski lift ticket area, we saw a pile of bikes that let us know, "This is not your mother's trail ride!"

The images of "Other Worldly Warriors" in face masks and body armor, armed with full suspension bikes instead of jousting steeds, and kevlar instead of chain mail warned us of the ensuing challenge. The gauntlet had been thrown down! It was them against the mountain!



The knights of the round wheel would ascend the mount via the ski lift but upon dismounting they immediately dispersed finding their myriad and very separate ways down the face of the mountain. They charged down, armed only with their wits and their high-tech mounts to individually challenge the mountain.



As we took our leisurely, albeit strenuous walk down the ski trail, we heard the sound of far off the battles as our two wheeled knights errant punished the dragons of the downhill freeride. Crashing through the woods and leaping the abyss our heros would burst forth from the verdant forests to appear briefly in the midday sun, only to rejoin the battle in an instant, joining in conflict once again behind the forrest wall. It was our only opportunity to photograph them as they whizzed by.



All we can really say about the Pedrosfest Jiminy Peak Freeride is that most of the riders we saw at the bottom of the mountain were merely there briefly before they once again charged off to do battle with the monsters of Jiminy Peak's forested slopes.
